Four years ago, hugs.tf started in a living room in West London; with an overheating PC and a slightly wobbly internet connection. It was our first Gameblast event and 24 hours later, exhausted and hungry, we had raised £140 and caught the streaming bug.
Over the next few years we upped our game and managed to collect a wonderful team along the way, who not only share our passion for video games, but also believe in the incredible work of Special Effect. With their help, our little charity stream snowballed and we ended up with a flat full of nerds, a production team, a showcase of some pretty talented gamers, and a whopping £3000 donated to charity.
In our fourth year things have only gotten better. We've got the same nerds, but we've been incredibly lucky to have found a venue and turned this hoedown into a real shindig. Tucked away in Hammersmith West London for a weekend (the 6th and 7th of May...since you asked), we plan on bringing you 26 solid hours of Team Fortress 2: with the usual sleep deprived nonsense, incredible giveaways, an inappropriate amount of memes, and a few surprises that we're keeping under our hats for now.
TLDR Hugs.tf's 2017 event will be taking place in Hammersmith, West London, over the weekend of the 6/7th May 2017. The event will be begin at 17:00BST and run for around 26 hours, ending 19:00BST on the Sunday.
If you would like to contact any of the hugs staff regarding sponsorship, item donations, and giving time or help during the event, then please contact any of the listed names on the Official Staff Steam Group.
Any donations of £10 or above to hugs.tf will not only aid Special Effect in bringing fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities, but will also earn you this shiny medal to keep forever!
Originally inside of the Gameblast weekend, hugs.tf now acts as a standalone event raising money for Special Effect's continued services in providing access to gaming, regardless of disability. By giving everybody the means to participate, they kick-start rehabilitation, inclusion and confidence.
Gameblast aimed to raise £100,000 in 2017 through a weekend of sponsored gaming streams via twitch.tv, and had backing in the form of huge sponsors: Multiplay, Faceit, Ukie, Insert Coin, and Game.
